Far North Queensland
Rainforests, mountains, dry country, swamps, lakes, parks, mudflats, mangroves, beaches and reef… It is no wonder that so many birds call Tropical North Queensland home with such a variety of habitats to choose from. In fact this area has the largest avifauna of any region in Australia. The Cairns region alone is home to over 450 species of birds and 14 of these are local endemics. Whatever time of year you decide to visit there will always be plenty of birds to see. We will be running the Workshops to coincide with the yearly return of the Buff-breasted Paradise-Kingfisher. Other species include Oriental Cuckoo, Golden Bowerbird, Yellow-breasted Boatbill, Great-billed Heron, Double-eyed Fig-parrot and a Variety of Honeyeaters.
